From Dave at Scarlet Ink — A One-Time Special Discount Offer for my Newsletter
Seriously. I'm not sure if I'll do this again.
Hey all!
Dave here. We’re closing in on the Christmas holidays. I have a checklist of things to get done before flying out to the Chicago area to spend time with our family.
Over the last few weeks, I’ve gotten literally a dozen requests for a discount on my newsletter. I suppose it’s a thing that newsletters do around the holidays.
I’ve never offered a discount, and at Amazon, I frequently got into arguments with the marketing team about how effective discounts are.
Dave — “But seriously, does anyone believe MSRP prices? It can’t possibly improve sales to have a discount 100% of the time.”
Marketers — “You’re dumb. Please go back and worry about the code stuff.”
This morning I was sitting here staring at next week’s partially written newsletter, and I desperately needed to procrastinate. I thought, “Hey, you know what’s a great way to procrastinate? You should test running a holiday discount!”
And I was right. That’s a great way to procrastinate. Not only did I need to create a new discount code, but I also had to write this email. And find a Christmas themed photo. Whew. Procrastination successful.
Anyway, for the first time, and perhaps only time, I have created a holiday discount.
That code will expire on Christmas because that felt like a good time to have it expire.
If you’ve been thinking about subscribing, this is perhaps the best time to do it.
I hope you all have a wonderful holiday season!
Dave
